Causes and Risk Factors

Plantar fasciitis often results from repetitive strain on the plantar fascia. It’s common in runners, individuals who stand for long hours, or those with poor footwear. Certain biomechanical and lifestyle factors also increase your risk.

WHAT IS PLANTAR FASCIITIS EMBOLIZATION (PFE)?

If you haven’t found adequate relief through other treatments, PFE may be right for you.
Plantar Fasciitis Embolization (PFE) is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure offered at the Texas Vascular Institute. This innovative method does not require general anesthesia and boasts a high success rate, effectively alleviating pain and enhancing quality of life. PFE serves as a viable alternative for individuals seeking relief without
undergoing surgery.

The procedure is straightforward:
  • An interventional radiologist uses imaging techniques to guide a catheter into the blood vessels of the foot.
  • The catheter is advanced to the arteries that supply blood to the plantar fascia.
  • An embolic agent is then injected to obstruct blood flow to the inflamed area.
