What is Endovenous Radiofrequency
Ablation?

Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive treatment for chronic venous insufficiency. Using heat energy delivered through a thin catheter, RFA gently closes off faulty veins, rerouting blood to healthier ones and relieving uncomfortable symptoms.
SYMPTOMS TREATED WITH RFA
  • Aching or throbbing legs
  • Visible varicose veins
  • Leg swelling
  • Skin discoloration or texture changes
  • Heaviness or fatigue in the legs
  • Burning or itching sensation near veins

Causes and Risk Factors

When leg veins struggle to circulate blood properly, pressure builds and leads to varicose veins and discomfort. RFA addresses the root cause: damaged vein valves, and is often recommended for patients with chronic venous insufficiency or poor circulation.

Is RFA a safe treatment for vein disease?

Yes. Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation is a minimally invasive procedure with a strong safety record. It uses controlled heat to gently close off damaged veins, allowing healthy veins to take over. Most patients return to normal activities within a day, making it an effective and low-risk option for chronic vein issues.

How is RFA performed?

Texas Vascular Institute specializes in Radiofrequency Ablation featuring the ClosureFast™ RFA System. The ClosureFast endovenous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) catheter is intended for endovascular closure of blood vessels in patients with superficial vein reflux. A thin, flexible catheter (tube) is inserted into the diseased vein through a small incision. Radiofrequency energy is delivered through the catheter, heating the vein wall. This heat causes the vein to collapse and seal shut, effectively closing it off. The body then naturally reroutes blood flow through healthier veins.

What to Expect During the Procedure:
